5 Things: Do You Have the Best Costume in America?

1. Show us your best costume. Due to the far-reaching impacts of Hurricane Sandy in several of our Patch states, we have extended the deadline for our Best Costume in America contest. The contest invites you to upload photos of you or your children in their Halloween best. The photo can be new or old. Entries must be uploaded by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5. One New Hampshire winner will earn $250 and a spot against 20 other finalist in the nationwide competition. The best costumed person in America will be awarded $5,000. Also, don't forget to vote now for your favorite pet costume – a couple entries are from Merrimack!

2. Trick or Treat. A reminder that trick-or-treat will be held this Sunday from 6-8 p.m. Motorists, please drive carefully around town with all the children on the street. Parents, check out some trick-or-treat safety tips to make sure everyone has a fun and safe Halloween.

3. Skate park closing. A quick reminder that the skate park on O'Gara Drive will close for the season at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4.

4. Interim library trustee named. At Thursday's Town Council Meeting, Richard Barnes was named to fill the open seat on the board of library trustees that opened as a result of the death of former trustee Martha Wagner. Barnes will serve on the board until the April election, and can run for a three-year seat then if he so wishes.

5. Weekend weather. After the beginning of the week's weather, we could use a dry weekend to clean up our yards and it's looking like that's what we're mostly going to get. Below is your weekend forecast from the National Weather Service.
