Get your weekend edition of five things you need to know today.

1. This one's for the dogs. Bring your dog and your family to the Anheuser-Busch Brewery and join the Humane Society for Greater Nashua at Walktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. It will be a day of fun including a morning dog walk, activities for the whole family, dog demos, pet friendly vendors, more than 100 raffles, food, beer and more! All proceeds will benefit the pets at the HSFN and shelter dogs will be available for on-site adoptions! Admission is $5 for adults, and children 11 and younger are free. There is free admission to those collecting walk pledges. Please help the shelter’s pets by raising pledges and walking your dog. Start your online fundraising page today at www.hsfn.org/pledge. For more information and questions visit www.hsfn.org or call 889-2275, ext. 35.
2. Support your firefighters. October is about fire prevention, so what better way to honor your local men and women of the fire department by getting out Saturday morning for fun and fitness at the Firefighters 5k. Run on a portion of the Merrimack High School cross country course and enjoy the thrill of racing down the high school track as you approach the finish line. The course is fast and flat and the event is open to runners, joggers and walkers. Visit the Firefighters 5k website to register and to learn more about how you can sponsor a firefighter. All proceeds go to the Professional Firefightes of Merrimack Community Programs.
3. Find a Halloween costume on the cheap. Bedford Girl Scout Troop 20912 is holding a Halloween Costume Exchange on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. You can also easily recycle costumes that have piled up in your closets. Buy a costume for $5 or bring one in for exchange.
