5 Things: Help Replenish Local Food Pantries

Morning news and notes in a tidy package.

1. Food drive. There are just a couple days left in the Merrimack Police Department's holiday season food drive. They've already delivered two rounds of food and the lobby is filling up once again. Help replenish the shelves at local food pantries at St. John Neumann Church and St. James United Methodist Church. Drop off donations at the Merrimack Police Department lobby.

2. Holiday tournament action. The Merrimack varsity hockey team beat Trinity High School in the second round of the Bauer Hockey Classic at the JFK Coliseum on Thursday afternoon. They play again today at 4 p.m. The Merrimack boys varsity basketball team will play at 6 p.m. tonight in Manchester as part of the Queen City Invitational Basketball Tournament. The girls varsity team will play in Nashua at 7:30 p.m. Both games were postponed from Thursday due to the snow.

3. Kindergarten registration. Merrimack School District will begin kindergarten enrollment in a little less than a month. The registration process will begin with parents picking up registration packets at their neighborhood school from Tuesday, Jan. 8 through Friday, Jan. 11, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Registration materials for kindergarten and grade one students will be returned to their respective school between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. 4. ICYMI. The Merrimack Public Library is looking for members of the community who would be willing to be involved in a series of meetings aimed at defining the strategic vision the library. It is looking for six to eight people who represent a cross section of the town to join a small strategic planning group. Learn more about how to apply – letters of interest are due Jan. 4.

5. Weekend weather. Cold days, colder nights on tap for the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
