5 Things: Legislators to Talk Tolls Wednesday

Bill will be heard in Legislative Office Building to consider discontinuing the tolls at the Exit 12 ramps.

Here are five things you should know as you start your Tuesday.

1. Toll talk. House Public Works and Highways will hear a bill Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. in Room 201 of the LOB, that proposes discontinuing the toll at Exit 12 on the Everett Turnpike in Merrimack. Reps. Jeanine Notter, R-Merrimack, and Lenette Peterson, R-Merrimack, are the bill sponsors.

2. Budget meeting. The School Budget Committee will hold a meeting tonight to discuss budgets with all six schools and the maintenance department. Meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Merrimack High School cafeteria.

3. Join the Girl Scouts. Calling all girls between the ages of 5-17. It’s time to discover, connect and take action: sign up for Girl Scouts! To find out more, go to an information night tonight at 7 p.m. at the YMCA, 6 Henry Clay Drive. Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains offers more than 100 programs for girls; registration is $12 a year. Adults volunteers are needed, too. Volunteers receive training and learn marketable skills, make new friends and make a difference in girls’ lives. 4. Winter Carnival. Planning is underway for the 21st annual Winter Carnival at Wasserman Park. The Merrimack Parks & Recreation Department and the Parks and Recreation Committee will host this event scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23 from noon-3 p.m. Enjoy a day of free family activities including an ice-fishing derby, snowman building, snow art, arts and crafts and lots of outdoor winter fun.

5. Weather watch. Last night's snow, sleet and freezing rain may give way to some snow showers this morning before 8 a.m. Patchy fog before 11 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 33. Tonight, a chance of freezing rain before midnight, then a chance of rain showers. Patchy fog. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 30.
