A View of Saturday's Rolling Rally in Boston

Scenes from the Red Sox parade through Boston on Nov. 2

For the first time since 1918, the Boston Red Sox won the World Series at Fenway Park on Wednesday, Oct. 30, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in six games.

It is the third World Series win for the beloved boys from Beantown since they broke an 86-year curse with a four-game sweep of the Cardinals in 2004. In 2007, the Sox also earned a four-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies.

Each of these wins, as well as three New England Patriot Superbowl championships, a Bruins Stanley Cup win and a Celtics NBA Championship have made Boston the winningest athletic city in the country since 2002. After each win, fans have lined the streets of Boston for Duck Boat parades that have become synonymous with a New England sports championship.

And Saturday morning was no different. Police never gave an estimated number, but fans several rows deep lined the 3.8-mile parade route, which used the amphibious vehicles to parade through the streets of Boston as well as the Charles River on an absolutely beautiful November morning.

Confetti flew, horns were blowing and music played as Red Sox faithful cheered the team that went from worst in 2012, to first in 2013. Along the way, the Duck Boats stopped at the Boston Marathon finish line to pay tribute to the men, women and children injured and killed in the marathon bombing back in April.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jonny Gomes placed the World Series trophy and a 617 Boston Strong Jersey at the finish line, which is still painted on the road, and God Bless America was played in memory and in honor of three killed at the finish line and the more then 260 injured.

It has been an emotional year in Boston, which has pulled itself up by the bootstraps since the April 15 bombing. Saturday's parade was an opportunity for the city to show it is in fact Boston Strong.
