Barnes Asks for Your Vote on April 9
Shannon Barnes, seeking a second term, says she makes her decisions balancing impact on education and community.

To the Editor and the Voters of Merrimack,
My name is Shannon Barnes and I am asking for your vote April 9 to re-elect me to the Merrimack School Board.
As a mother of two children, I understand the importance of a strong education and its impact on child, family and community. Strong schools are the foundation to a strong community.

I take the job of school board member very seriously. Whether I am at the table at a meeting, at one of the many committees the board assigns me to, or simply in the grocery store, gas station, or library, I am constantly on the job. When out in town, I am approached with community members asking questions and sharing ideas they otherwise would not have asked in a formal communication. The job is 24/7 and it comes with many responsibilities and rewards in the form of a great community to raise my family.
In my role I have been faced with having to make decisions, both popular and unpopular, and I made every vote considering the impact on education and community. In my time on the Board, our budgets have been fiscally prudent even if it meant having to find ways to make cuts and find alternative ways to not just maintain the level of education, but to improve it.
