Call on School for Wednesday Remains to be Made

Superintendent said she's waiting to hear if power at schools is restored before making decision.

Merrimack School Superintendent Marge Chiafery said around 6:30 p.m. that it is likely she won't make the call on whether or not to hold school until tomorrow morning.

As of 6:30 two of Merrimack's schools were still without power and Chiafery was still waiting for updates from the utility company on whether those schools could be brought back up tonight.

"The hard part is I have to be responsive to a utility that I have no control over," Chiafery said.

School was never officially called off for tomorrow, despite an earlier report on Merrimack Patch.

Earlier this afternoon, Merrimack Patch was told by Michael Currier, the town's emergency management director, who has been coordinating the town's response to Hurricane Sandy, that school was off for tomorrow. We reported the information based on what he said, but should have confirmed with Chiafery.

We apologize for any confusion that this caused.

If we hear any differently tonight from Chiafery, we'll let you know as soon as we can. Otherwise, please sit tight and wait to hear until tomorrow morning.

Be well, Merrimack. And students? Do your homework!
