Done Shopping? Here Are Some Things to do This Weekend
Five great local events to check out this weekend before Christmas.
1. Last minute local shopping. The Craftworkers’ Guild is open through Saturday, Dec. 22, at the historic Kendall House in Bedford. This winter’s seasonal shop is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Guild’s more than 60 artisans and craftspeople will be showing an impressive collection of handcrafted work, many of them one-of-a-kind. All of the arts and crafts are juried by the Guild to maintain a high standard of quality and originality. Work includes winter-themed and holiday accessories, fiber and fabric arts, gourmet treats, jewelry in many media, paper arts, pottery, baskets, wood crafts, paintings and more. The Kendall House is at 5 Meetinghouse Road, Bedford, behind the Bedford Public Library. Parking is free and plentiful.
2. Take some time for yourself. The Holistic Self Care Center, 12 Murphy Drive, Nashua, invites you to join Barb Tremlett for a day of spiritual healing! Take time to feel the peace that surrounds us and to appreciate where we are going as this year ends and a new one begins. Send positive thoughts and intentions into our future and feel the magic unfold! This peacefulmeditation is free and open to the public (donation suggestion of $5). 3. 'A Christmas Carol.' Based on the Charles Dickens classic, the Peacock Players will perform 'A Christmas Carol.' It tells the tale of curmudgeonly miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by the ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future hoping to change his destiny and save his soul. This play, with music, is an original adaptation by Peacock Players Artistic Director Keith Weirich, follows Scrooge through a strange and magical journey, where he ultimately discovers the true spirit of the holiday season. Catch the show Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $12-$17 and performances are at the Janice B. Streeter Theater, 14 Court St., Nashua. 4. Rail Jam for Salvation Army. GnarBear Sports Apparel is hosting another epic rail and box jam! This time to help keep others warm this winter. Ride or watch for free with a donation of gently used winter apparel for the Salvation Army! The rail jam will be Saturday, Dec. 22, from 1-4 p.m. at McIntyre Ski Area, 50 Chalet Way, Deerfield. 5. A little holiday competition. Frederick’s Pastries employees have completed the process of building their annual Gingerbread House Village Display and are looking for your votes. The public is invited to visit the store and vote for their favorite house, with this year’s theme is "A Kid’s Christmas.” The employees placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place are given prizes, in addition, Frederick’s Pastries draws names from the voting ballots and award 12 lucky patrons a sweet prize from the bakery. Visit them at 109 Route 101A in Amherst. Displays are also set up in Frederick’s Pastries Bedford, NH and N. Andover, MA locations but voting only happens in Amherst, NH.
