DWI Charge For Driver In Serious Merrimack Crash: ICYMI
New Hampshire State Police said Michael Koumantzelis was arrested after veering off the Everett Turnpike and hitting a tree.

MERRIMACK, NH — A Massachusetts driver was intoxicated when he veered off the Everett Turnpike in Merrimack over the weekend and crashed into a tree, according to police. Michael Koumantzelis, 30, of Dracut, was seriously injured. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and police said his license was suspended after a previous DWI charge.
The crash happened Sunday at about 7 p.m., according to State Police Lt. Bryan Trask. Koumantzelis was driving a Dodge Ram on the northbound side of the highway when he drifted off the road, careened down an embankment and slammed into a tree, according to Trask.
Koumantzelis was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua for treatment. He will be arraigned Feb. 12 in Merrimack District Court. He was also charged with driving after suspension.
