LETTER: Vote Straight for State Rep. Nov. 6
Town Councilor Nancy Harrington urges support of her husband in the general election.

To the Editor:
To the Citizens of Merrimack,
I am writing this letter in hopes of shedding some light as to why you should vote for Phil Straight for your State Representative. I could write from the perspective of his wife but more importantly I want to help everyone appreciate the perspective of many other citizens in this town.

He has been a very active participant as a volunteer in many committees and organizations in Merrimack. His volunteer involvement includes six years on the conservation commission, an original member of the Watson Park committee and continues as chairman of the Watson Park Pavilion subcommittee, Parks and Recreation Committee and is chairman of the Zoning Board. You may have seen him on many occasions working on the Watson Park grounds paying
particular attention to maintaining of the American flag at the entrance. Ask anyone who has worked with him in any of these capacities and you will hear that he is a tireless worker who seeks no attention other than working for the betterment of our town. The two most noted qualities would be his integrity and respect for all opinions.
Integrity is defined as doing the right thing when no one is looking. As mentioned earlier, Phil has not spent many hours to benefit this town for personal recognition or gain. He has done those things because he felt it was the right thing to do. He is very fond of the people of Merrimack and since his retirement he felt he had the opportunity to give back to the people and the community of Merrimack.

Respect is another characteristic which is often used to describe Phil. He is well respected by all who know him and he demonstrates respect for all with whom he interacts. He not only listens but seeks out varied opinions in order to come to a conclusion.
I believe he demonstrates that sense of character that is integral to what is needed in a representative for Merrimack. I am proud of my husband and I know that Merrimack will be proud to have him as a State Representative for our town. I ask that you vote for him on Nov. 6 and give him a chance to represent us in Concord.
