Local Day Care Provider Charged in Alleged Assault of Child

The following information was provided by Merrimack Police. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

MERRIMACK, NH — A Milford woman who worked as a teacher for a local childcare center in Merrimack in April has been arrested on a charge of assault against a child that goes to the center. Sharon Quigley, 51, of 17 Ponemah Hill Road, Milford, was charged with simple assault after turning herself in to Merrimack Police on Oct. 11, 2013.

Police say an investigation began on Oct. 3 when they took a complaint of a possible assault of a 2-year-old girl enrolled at the center. Through the investigation, detectives say they learned the alleged assault was committed by Quigley, a teacher there.

Detective Scott Park said he couldn't get into the details of the investigation, but that "the child was picked up in such a way that it caused bruising to her hip." He said they notified the state's child care licensing who will do their own investigation, but at this point, the police investigation is closed.
