Local Family Aids in Quick End to Brush Fire

Brush fire appeared to have started under the power lines.

The following was submitted by local resident Deb Huffman, with high praise to a local family who helped put a quick end to a brush fire in Horse Hill Nature Preserve on Tuesday afternoon.

Early this afternoon, three generations of the Lambert family - mother Alyce, her son Ken and her grandson Andrew were taking a walk on Horse Hill Nature Preserve, when they spotted a brush fire. It seemed to have started along the trail under the powerlines and was spreading in both directions - up Old Kings Highway and down the Loop trail toward the Spalding foundation. They had to run up a hill into a neighborhood and knock on doors, but eventually found someone home and called the fire department. The fire department arrived and put out the fire, but had to cut several trees that had started to catch. We're lucky the Lambert family enjoyed this beautiful afternoon on HHNP! The Lamberts and the Merrimack Fire Department are the HHNP heroes of the day!
