Man Indicted in Brutal Attack Against Mother

Thomas V. Foden facing three class B felonies and one class A felony in attacked that caused his mother to lose vision in her left eye and lose an ear.

A Nashua man who allegedly attacked his mother in a November home invasion was indicted on three felony-level assault charges and a felony-level burglary charge.

Thomas V. Foden, 39, of 57 Tyler St. No. 409, Nashua, has been incarcerated at the Hillsborough County House of Correction since Nov. 25 when he was arrested for the alleged burglary and assault.

According to the the three second-degree assault indictments handed up by a grand jury at Nashua Superior Court South this month, Foden caused serious bodily injury to his mother, Alicia J. Flanders, 66. The indictments allege he threw her into a glass cabinet, causing lacerations, ruptured her left eye causing her to lose vision and severed her left ear, which could not be reattached.

The fourth indictment on the burglary charge says he broke into the home with the intention of assault.

If convicted, Foden faces 3 1/2-7 years in prison for each of the assualt charges and 7 1/2-15 years for the burglary.

In November, Foden was ordered by a judge and to have a mental health evaluation. Foden has a history of schizophrenia and has been ordered to stay away from his mother if released on bail, according to court documents.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt but rather a ruling that there is enough evidence to bring a case forward to trial.
