Rothhaus, Boyd Re-elected to Town Council
Warrant article for $3.3 million bond for highway garage upgrades fails to muster two-thirds vote required for passage.
Finlay Rothhaus and Bill Boyd were re-elected to the Merrimack Town Council on April 8, with less than 297 votes separating the top vote-getter from the third candidate, state Rep. Lenette Peterson.
The Town Council election results for three-year term (two seats open):
- Bill Boyd: 1,110
- Lenette M. Peterson: 908
- Finlay C. Rothhaus: 1,205
Priorities for the next term include making sure the tax rate is level and even as possible to support residents and businesses, he said.
Boyd, also speaking after the results were announced, said there were three good candidates for the two seats.
"I want to thank the voters of Merrimack for re-electing me," he said. "I enjoy what I do on the council."
Boyd said the next term would continue to be a focus on what he called the "municipal mechanics," those fundamentals of good government, such as quality of life issues for families and ensuring the town is a great place to do business.
Voters adopted the town operating budget of $31,979,257.
The vote on Article 2, the warrant article for $3,300,000 in bonding for highway garage upgrades and installation, was 1,093 to 808. However, as a bond article, it required a two-thirds vote for passage, or 1,268 votes.
