MERRIMACK, NH — Sarah Heimberg has been named as the third top student in Merrimack High School's graduating Class of 2019. Heimberg is an avid trumpet player who has won second place in the National Trumpet Competition and was a featured soloist with the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra and Portsmouth Symphony. This month, she is also being a featured soloist with the Nashua Chamber Orchestra.

In addition to actively participating in Merrimack High School's music program, Heimberg has played trumpet with the New Hampshire All-State Orchestra and the All-Eastern Orchestra. She has also played with the New Hampshire Youth Jazz Ensemble and the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. She also founded the Karner Blue Brass Quintet, which performed at her senior recital in May. During the summer, Heimberg has attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the Atlantic Brass Quintet Seminar.

During her time in Merrimack High School, Heimberg has participated in Quiz Bowl and the National Honors Society. She has won the Creative Writing Award and has won in the performance category at National History Day States. She is a Gold Award Girl Scout and a Merrimack Safeguard student representative.

This fall, Heimberg will attend the New England Conservatory of Music to study trumpet performance under the tutelage of Benjamin Wright.
