Merrimack Named One Of America’s Safest Communities

The town placed 19th on Neighborhood Scout's annual list, up from 34th last year.

Merrimack is one of the safest communities in the country, according to Neighborhood Scout.

Merrimack placed 19th on the list of 100 “Safest Cities 2014," up from 34th in 2013.

"We, the Merrimack Police Department, as a community involved agency, are proud of our accomplishments but also thankful for the support and assistance we receive from all of our community partners," a Merrimack police press release said. "We recognize that without the support of our partners in the community, we would not be able to achieve the lofty goals we set for ourselves as an organization.

"We would like to recognize our partners in the Town Administration and operations, School Administrative unit, volunteer community organizations, local business groups, and community residents as well that have all contributed to making our community one of the safest to live in the country!"

Neighborhood Scout scans crime data of communities with over 25,000 people. Crimes can include: burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, murder, forcible rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault.

According to Neighborhood Scout, the data for this year’s list is fully vetted and complete data that was reported to the FBI in 2012. A new list will be formed when the 2013 crime stats are finalized by the FBI in the fall of 2014.
