I’d like to nominate  Candy Simeone. Candy inspires me and many others every day with her strength after losing her son, her job and her mother. She has turned her grief into something good for others through her volunteer work with Donate Life. She attends motorcycle rallies to spread the word about the importance of wearing a helmet. She started her Candy’s Cookie Smiles business originally as a show of love for our troops and our college kids away from home and it’s turned into so much more. The tragedies she has suffered have not kept her down. She relied on her faith to point the way to support others and to me  that’s amazing, and certainly most deserving of Merrimack Patch’s Person of the Year.

In November, Patch ran an article about Simeone, who started a business called Candy's Cookie Smiles, marrying parts of her life that she's lost – her son and her mother – with something she loves – baking cookies.
