Merrimack's Marathoners Make Their Way Across Finish Line

UPDATE: Tragedy has struck down at the Boston Marathon. Two explosions have injured more than 20 and killed at least two. We are working to bring you the best updates we can. We did just receive an update on Facebook that Melissa Skarupa was about .7 miles from the finish line when the explosions occurred. She is safe and was rerouted off the course.

Maggie Theriault, a Merrimack nurse who was down working at the Marathon today is also safe.

According to notes on Google People Finder, Adrian Wong is also safe. And a message on Facebook also indicates Alan Howe is safe. We are still awaiting word on Curt Fischer and Nathan Fluet. Please contact us if you have any word on Merrimack's runners/spectators.

It's been a great day for running down in Boston, during the 117th Boston Marathon.

The men's race was won by first-time Boston Marathon winner Lelisa Desisa, of Ethiopia, in a time of 2:10:22. The women's race win went to Rita Jeptoo, 2:26:25. Jeptoo won the Boston Marathon once before in 2006 in a time of 2:23:38. Marblehead's Shalane Flanagan, who had her sights set on a win, came in fourth in the women's race, about a minute after Jeptoo, in a time of 2:27:28.

From Merrimack, 25-year-old Adrian Wong finished first in a time of 2:56:13. He ran a very even paced race across 26.2 miles, maintaining a pace of between 6:35 and 6:52 minute miles for the whole race.
