MERRIMACK, NH — A Merrimack woman was arrested this week on a theft charge after reportedly receiving money in a deceptive vehicle sale. Police say that Kimberly Belanger, 39, of Merrimack, agreed to sell her car to someone for $600. After she received the money, she was supposed to return with the car being purchased and give it to the buyer. But when she never showed up with the car, the victim called police.

Merrimack police say the incident occurred on March 27 at a local Merrimack business. According to police, Belanger said she was only using the car to drop something off, after receiving the $600 in cash. But she never returned with neither the car nor the money.

Police say they later learned that the car did not belong to Belanger. There was also a lien on it prohibiting her from legally the vehicle, according to police. Belanger turned herself in on a warrant on Thursday, and was released on personal recognizance bail pending arraignment Tuesday at Merrimack District Court.
