Monday Essentials: Parking Upgrade, Facilities Facelift Coming to YMCA

YMCA facilities facelift. Significant changes will be taking place at the YMCA of Greater Nashua's Merrimack facility. A parking lot overhaul is beginning Wednesday that will disrupt parking over the next few weeks, but will result in a safer walkway for pedestrians as well as a renovated parking area. A facelift to the front entrance and a wall of windows in the field house will help brighten up the facilities as well. These and other changes are coming to the YMCA, which can be found here.

Summer reading finale. Celebrate your summer reading at the Merrimack Public Library's Finale Picnic in the Park - this year, in conjunction with the Merrimack Summer Concert Series at Abbie Griffin Park! The picnic is Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The special guest during this evening will be Steve Blunt, storyteller and musician. Midnight madness. There are only two spaces left in the teen Midnight Madness party at the Merrimack Public Library on Friday night. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to an after-hours party (8-11:55 p.m.) at the library. Enter a raffle for summer reading prizes, and enjoy some loud-in-the-library activities like Karaoke and Dance Central, a Nerf Challenge, Minute-to-Win-It games, a movie, and plenty of snacks. Teens MUST be picked up by midnight. PJs optional. Parent volunteers to help chaperone this event are also needed. If you are available contact the library at 424-5021. Register for the party at the library or online.

All Politics is Local: This week will see several big-name political figures visiting New Hampshire. Today, U.S. Rep. Peter King (R-NY), a possible presidential candidate in 2016, is in the Granite State. And tomorrow, former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will attend an NHGOP fundraiser in Wolfeboro, where he owns a summer home. On Friday, former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) is scheduled to attend an event in Salem. Brown, of course, has been talked about as a possible Senate candidate in New Hampshire, given that he owns a summer home on the Seacoast.
