Nashua Woman Charged With Falling Asleep, Causing Crash

A Nashua woman was charged with negligent driving Wednesday after police say she fell asleep behind the wheel and caused a rollover crash.

MERRIMACK, NH Police say that a Nashua woman fell asleep behind the wheel and caused a rollover vehicle accident on Everett Turnpike in Merrimack on Wednesday. Colby Rezk, 27, of Nashua, was charged with negligent driving in connection with the accident, reported around 9:44 a.m. Wednesday. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, according to the State Police.

Police say the accident occurred on Everett Turnpike southbound, as Rezk was driving a 2009 Mazda and fell asleep at the wheel, striking a 2012 Toyota Hatchback driven by 41-year-old Andrew Desmond of Merrimack. After the impact, the Mazda rolled over the center guardrail and landed on the northbound side of the turnpike. Police say that Desmond was not injured in the accident.
The left lanes of both the northbound and southbound sides of the turnpike were closed to traffic for about two hours as officials cleared the scene and the guardrail was temporarily repaired. Assisting State Police on the scene were members of Merrimack Police and Fire departments, and members of New Hampshire Department of Transportation. Rezk is scheduled to appear in Nashua District Court on June 5 on the negligent driving charge.
