Old Man of The Mountain Lives on in Memories

Here are five things you should know as you start your weekend.

1. Gone but not forgotten. Gov. Maggie Hassan has declared today – May 3, 2013 – as Old Man of the Mountain Remembrance Day. The stone face, first discovered in 1805, collapsed from the side of Cannon Mountain 10 years ago today.

2. Fresh food. Dying for freshly-grown produce, local food and regionally-made products that come with the annual Merrimack Farmers Market? Here's some good news: It's only about a month and a half away.

3. Household hazardous waste. The next collection for household hazardous wastes will take place on Saturday, May 4 in Milford at the Milford Public Works Garage, 289 South St., from 8 a.m. to noon. Merrimack residents are invited to participate in this event, as are residents of the 10 other towns in the region - Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Hudson, Litchfield, Milford, Mont Vernon, Nashua, Pelham and Windham. There is a 10-gallon or 20 pound limit per household, and a charge of $10 per car. More information here.

4. Community policing. The new "Merrimack Police Department Program Guide" is now available online on the police department website. It contains a complete list and overview of all of programs available to Merrimack residents. The Merrimack Police Department does a lot more in the community than you probably even realize. Check it out and download a copy of your own here.

5. Weekend weather. More beautiful weather on tap, straight through the weekend. But still no rain in sight. Fire officials continue to warn of very high fire danger as a result of the dry, warm weather.
