One Injured in Crash That Shut Wire Road

Police say a juvenile passenger in the car that cracked a telephone pole on Tuesday evening suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

One person was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening when the car they were riding in left the road and struck a telephone pole on Wire Road.

Merrimack Police Lt. Matthew Tarleton said late Wednesday night that the investigation into the accident was ongoing but that the driver of the vehicle was Tori Caron, 17, of Merrimack.

The passenger who was taken to the hospital was a juvenile and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Tarleton said. Caron and another passenger in the car were uninjured.

The accident, which cracked the telephone pole near its base, completely shut down a section of Wire Road near the intersection with Ivy Drive and Mallard Point Road for about an hour and a half and rerouted traffic during the evening commute.

A Nixle.com alert was sent at 5:08 p.m. announcing the road would be closed for an indefinite period of time. A second alert sent at 7:23 p.m. announced the road had been re-opened to one lane. Public Service of New Hampshire was called to the scene to evaluate the pole, which was leaning slightly toward the road. It was determined the pole would need to be replaced. Tarleton said around 10 p.m. that PSNH was in the process of replacing the pole.

Tarleton said the cause of the crash is still under investigation and that at this time he could not say whether speed, drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident. He said follow up conversations need to be held with Caron and her passengers as part of the investigation.

“We've got more investigating to do,” Tarleton said. “There's more follow up to come on this in the next couple days.”

Merrimack Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene.
