• 1 killed, at least 7 seriously hurt in Manchester blaze (unionleader.com) — Merrimack firefighters were among many area crews called to a devastating New Year’s apartment fire in Manchester that killed one person, critically injured a child, and displaced about 50 residents. The late-night blaze tore through the four-story Executive Manor building, forcing people to jump from windows as churches and the Red Cross helped survivors find warmth and shelter.
   

• NH Democrats respond to rumors about plans for an ICE processing facility in Merrimack (newenglandnewspress.com) — Merrimack is being floated in federal planning documents as a possible site for a large new ICE detainee processing facility, though local and state officials say they’ve had no formal notice. Three Merrimack Democratic legislators and Rep. Maggie Goodlander are sharply criticizing the idea, arguing such a center would conflict with the town’s values and urging officials to reject any proposal if it emerges.
