Petition Created to Oppose Cell Tower on Joppa Road

A petition on Change.org urges the Merrimack zoning board to deny the New Cingular Wireless application.

A proposal for a special zoning exception to allow for the construction of a cell tower on Joppa Road in Merrimack is generating some local opposition.

The Merrimack Zoning Board of Adjustment, at its May 28 meeting, will consider the special exception for New Cingular Wireless PCS LLC. The site is in residential and aquifer conservation districts.

Andrew Kosko created a petition on Change.org to prevent the 150-foot tower.

The Change.org petition reads, in part:

"There are a number of residential homes in close proximity to the proposed location. The 150-foot tall tower is incompatible with the neighborhood aesthetics. Although it is intended to resemble a tree, it is clearly not one as it will sit high above the current tree line. This will undoubtedly be an eyesore to the surrounding neighbors. These are the same neighbors who purchased a home in a nice rural area. The last thing they ever thought they would be dealing with is a 150' commercial structure going up in their backyard."
