Police: Teen Caught Trying to Steal Street Sign

Police were called for suspicious activity and say they found a crime in progress.

A Rhode Island teenager was caught in the act attempting to steal a street sign that sounds as though it was named for a famous comic book character.

On Tuesday, March 26, police were called to Lois Lane for a report of suspicious activity.

It was there they say they found 19-year-old Alexander Chase of 48 Homestead Ave., North Smithfield, R.I., trying to remove the Lois Lane sign from a post that also holds a stop sign.

Police say Chase used his car to knock over the sign post and was in the process of removing the street sign when officers responded.

Chase was charged with criminal mischief, attempted theft and operating  under suspension. He was released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail and ordered to appear in Merrimack's district court on April 9 to answer to the charge.
