Section of Turkey Hill Road Closed Due to Flooding

Flash flood watch remains in effect until 6 p.m.

Rain has been falling for hours in Merrimack and police are warning residents to use caution while driving around town, especially on Turkey Hill Road, which is experiencing some road flooding.

Police announced via Nixle alert at 3:45 p.m. that Turkey Hill Road is closed between W. Chamberlain Road and Bancroft Street due to flooding. The alert was issued just 10 minutes after a Nixle alert advised residents to use caution on the road.

"The roadway is being prepped for re-surfacing and is experiencing temporary drainage issues due to the heavy rains and raised catch basins," according to a Nixle alert sent by police at 3:35 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8.

Ten minutes later, police told residents a detour is in place to get around the trouble spot.

"Please use the following detour from either direction from Turkey Hill Road to W. Chamberlain Road to Newton Street to Bancroft Street or vice-versa.

The National Weather Service earlier today issued a flash flood watch  for much of New Hampshire, including Hillsborough County and by extension, Merrimack.

"Rainfall  amounts will average between 1 and 3 inches. Some localized  amounts may reach up to 4 inches, which will likely cause  flash flooding," the advisory said.
