Temporary Road Closure on Baboosic, D.W. Highway Tonight

Here are five things you should know as you start your Friday.

1. Temporary road closure tonight. Baboosic Lake Road from Town Hall to Daniel Webster Highway and D.W. Highway to Twin Bridge Park (home of Bise Field and Kids Kove) will be closed for a short period of time on Friday evening for the Merrimack Youth Association's opening day baseball parade. Teams will march from Town Hall to the field for opening day games and activities. Traffic will be delayed in that area starting around 6 p.m. Motorists can use Joppa Road to get around the parade. Avoid the area if possible, or, better yet, help line the parade route and cheer on this year's teams.

2. Burlington to Boston. Organizers of KeyBank's Vermont City Marathon are offering 150 free race entries to runners of the Boston Marathon who were unable to finish the 26.2 mile jaunt to from Hopkinton to Copley Square after two bombs were detonated at the finish line on Monday, April 15. “Our entire community comes together race weekend to create an atmosphere of celebration,” said KeyBank Vermont City Marathon race director Peter Delaney. “We’re opening our doors to anyone who was unable to finish Boston, so that they can realize the results of their training and continue the healing process.” The race will draw 8,000 runners, another 1,700 volunteers and approximately 30,000 spectators, making it New England's second largest marathon behind the world famous Boston Marathon. 3. Can you help ID this young man? Bedford Police are seeking help identifying a young man who is a person of interest in an assault investigation at Walmart in Bedford. 4. 24 year of service. Stephen W. Curtis was recognized on Thursday night at the Merrimack Town Council meeting for his 24 years of service to the Merrimack Highway Department. Curtis was hired on April 1, 1989 and will retire April 30. According to Highway Department Operations Manager Adam Jacobs, Curtis has driven for many years one of the hardest plow routes in town, was instrumental in keeping the town's sidewalks clear during the winter and a few years ago became a Master Roads Scholar in New Hampshire, among other things. He was considered a leader in the department. Thank you, Stephen, for your service to the town.

5. Weekend Weather. Despite potential for some scattered showers today, this weekend's forecast is looking to be pretty great. Get out and enjoy the spring weather before school starts up again for the final push to summer vacation on Monday.
