Tree Rips Hole into Whispering Pines House
No one was injured and damage did not render home uninhabitable.
On Friday, Dec. 21, the Merrimack Fire Department was dispatched to 22 Whispering Pines Lane at 2:46 p.m. for a reported tree that had struck a house. Engine 1 and K1 responded and upon arrival found a large pine tree that had been broken in half by high wind gusts, approximately 30 feet above the ground. The top portion of the tree had struck the roof of a single-family, two-story colonial home and knocked down a second pine tree before falling to the ground. There were three occupants in the home at the time the tree hit and fortunately no one was injured. The roof of the house sustained damage that included a large hole and several broken rafters.
Fire Department personnel were able to clear debris from the roof and cover the hole with a tarp to try and minimize any further damage. The property is inhabitable and was left in the care of the owner.
