Use Facebook to Donate to Victims of Typhoon Haiyan

Morning news and notes for Thursday, Nov. 14.

Full moon hike. Join the Peabody Mill Environmental Center in Amherst for a full moon hike on Sunday, Nov. 17, starting at 6 p.m. Listen to stories and a walk in the woods along easy paths that accommodate people of all ages. Bring a flashlight to help you navigate uneven terrain. Leonids Meteor Shower may be seen during this time. Cost is $8 for Amherst residents, $10 for non-residents; and $20 for an Amherst family, $25 for a non-resident Family

 The Merrimack Cardinals Jr. Pee Wee football and cheerleading squads are making some seriously awesome moves out there! Over the weekend, the cheerleading squad earned a trip to Nationals at Disney World with their performance at the regional competition in Springfield, Mass. Also over the weekend, the football team won the state championship, sending the young players to the regional finals Rhode Island. Read more about how you can help the cheerleading squad raise $30,000 in the next few weeks for the trip. Major kudos to both teams on tremendous accomplishments!

Use Facebook for good. If you didn't log in to Facebook on Wednesday, or if you weren't paying close attention, you may have missed a new, temporary addition to the page. The American Red Cross and Facebook have teamed up to allow Facebook users to quickly and easily donate $10 to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Read the Red Cross' how-to guide on helping thev victims on Facebook.

International Game Day at the Library. Merrymac Games and Comics and Merrimack Friends and Familes are teaming up with the library to provide a day of gaming for all sorts of players, celebrating "International Games Day at Your Library."  Activities will include a Retro Gaming Arcade where The Lowell Room will time-travel to a prehistoric world where people gamed on Sega stations, Gameboys, and Atari. For ages 8-teen.  No registration required. There will also be Giant Candyland & Mario Kart In the Children's Room.  No registration required. In the Klumpp room, starting at 10 a.m. Chris Lepkowski, co-owner of Merrymac Games and Comics, introduces teens and adults to unique table-top games to spice up your game night, including deck-building games, hidden loyalty games, and more! This session is for ages 12 and older. Snacks will be provided, and there may be some other "playful" surprises in store!

Weather watch. Today begins a nice warm up to more seasonable and even warmer than seasonal temperatures over the next few days. According to the National Weather Service today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 48. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 29.
