With Snow Coming, Reminder of Winter Parking Ban

Winter storm expected to dump around a foot or more of snow on Southern New Hampshire.

With news of the first big snowfall of the season expected to hit tonight into Thursday morning, police reminding residents of the rules of the town's winter parking ban.

This means cars may not be parked on a public road between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. and if the town declares a snow emergency, there can be no parking on public streets at any time of day until the emergency has been lifted.

In the meantime, make sure you have your shovels, snowblowers, plows, rock salt, etc. at the ready. Stay off the roads if possible during the height of the storm, which is expected in the overnight hours, and drive carefully if you must be on the road.

The full text of the town's winter ordinances is below:

Town ordinance (183-19): If the town declares a “Snow Emergency”, there will be no parking on town streets and roads until the snow emergency has been lifted.

Winter parking ban (183-17): No vehicle or trailer shall be parked on any public street or highway between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Nov. 15 until April 15.

Impeding Snow removal (183-18): No vehicle or trailer shall be parked on any public street or highway from Nov. 15 until April 15 in such a manner as to impede snow removal.

The Merrimack Police Department and the Merrimack Public Works Department asks all residents to assist them in their efforts to maintain safe roads and highways by complying with this request.

Though police hope that enforcement will not be necessary, a violation of these ordinances can be punishable by a fine up to $500.  In addition, your vehicle will be towed from the street at your expense.
