Officer in 'Serious but Stable' Condition After Crash

Officer was injured in Wednesday crash in Milford.

Amherst Police Officer Matthew Saunders remains in the intensive care unit at UMass Medical Center in Worcester today, following a two-vehicle crash that left him with serious injuries on Wednesday afternoon.

Police Chief Mark Reams told Patch that Saunders is listed in serious, but stable, condition and "should be moved soon from ICU and discharged in the next several days."

Reams told the Union Leader Saunders could be back to work in the next eight to 12 weeks.

Saunders, 49, of Brookline, was traveling south on Route 13 in Milford on Wednesday afternoon, headed home from work, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car driven by Carolye McCusker, 63, of Milford.

McCusker was attempting to turn left out of the Lull Farm farmstand on Route 13 when the collision happened. She was unhurt in the accident.

Saunders was off-duty at the time of the crash.
