Gov. Maggie Hassan was in Canada on Sunday and Monday for the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers’ 37th Annual Conference in La Malbaie, Quebec.
According to the governor's office, the conference provides an opportunity for Hassan to strengthen regional partnerships to ensure strong economic ties between New Hampshire, other New England states and Canada. Hassan has directed appropriate state agencies to work with their counterparts in the NEG/ECP to revitalize the group’s economic development panel to help encourage job creation throughout the region, which will be a focus of next year’s meeting, to be held in New Hampshire.
“It is important that we work as a region, across both state and international borders, to strengthen trade and economic development in order to create jobs and increase opportunities for New Hampshire businesses and residents, while preserving what makes our state special,” Hassan said. “Our regional partnerships will be critical as we work to build a more innovative economic future and attract new companies with good jobs that can support a strong and growing middle class.
“I look forward to hosting the conference next year in New Hampshire, where we will be able to highlight what makes our state a great place to live, visit and do business,” she added.
Topics being discussed at this year’s conference include transportation, mutual aid agreements for emergency response, energy efficiency and rail safety.
