Milford's Winter Parking Ban May Use Warning Light System
Selectman plan to only enforce the overnight winter parking ban when needed this winter.

The Town of Milford is considering a different system to replace the overnight winter parking ban that runs from November through April.
Milford selectmen discussed a warning light alternative this week that would only enact the ban when necessary. The current parking ban forbids vehicles from parking upon or adjacent to Milford streets between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. from Nov. 15 through April 15.
Public works director Rick Riendeau said a warning light system would cost approximately $5,000 to install. Selectmen plan to place it on top of town hall for maximum visibility and send out notifications to residents as well.

They agreed that this would give drivers less restrictions on parking during the winter, especially if there is another mild snow season this year. The light would be turned on whenever the area needs to be cleared for plowing, not just when it is snowing.
Cars downtown can be moved to Garden Street when the ban is in place, which is open 24 hours

Selectmen were not in agreement in how to activate the light. Kathy Bauer said she wants the system to be wired to MACC Base so they can turn it on and off, but Mike Putnam suggested the switch be placed in town hall for town employees to use.
Violators of the current ordinance are charged $10, or up to $500, and can have their cars towed without notice at the owner’s expense.
Selectman Mark Fougere said it is important to let landlords and the public know the rules, since there has been trouble with communicating them in the past.
