New Computer Lab Coming To Jacques Memorial School
The elementary school is converting one of its rooms into a new kind of learning space.
Jacques Memorial Elementary School is looking to upgrade its curriculum through a new computer lab to accommodate a 21st century learning experience.
The school is transforming an unused room in the building into a computer lab that will hold 22 computers. It should all be ready soon after Thanksgiving, according to Jerry Stajduhar, IT Director at Milford Public Schools.
Stajduhar said that the room was too small for a standard classroom, but turned out to be a perfect spot to use as a computer resource for students.

This will be their first full computer lab, and Principal Nancy Nancy Maguire is looking forward to her school using it to its full potential.
“There are lots of things we can do curriculum wise,” said Maguire. “My vision is for this lab to be busy and always have constant use. We are wide open to possibilities, including practice programs and online learning tools.”

Jacques' new computer lab will also be used in preparation of upcoming Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) in January, that will begin to evaluate student learning at the elementary school.
Maguire said that the school wants students to become comfortable using computers, which they will use for the evaluation process. The NWEA testing process is used to evaluate student learning and determine where changes in curriculum are needed.
She added that she is very excited to give her students an expanded learning experience through technology.
"We are so excited. It is so important for our kids to have exposure to both the hardware and software early. They can pick it up so quickly.”
