Weekend Planner: Trucks, Bowls and Rock N' Roll

Let Patch show you some of the good times happening in NH this weekend.

1. Bowls! Join the Empty Bowls Community Bowl-Making Workshop Friday, Aug. 2 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Studio 550 Community Art Center and Gallery in Manchester for this monthly community workshop to support lasting and positive change with art (the mission of the non-profit that started Empty Bowls). Most months this will be an Empty Bowls workshop to build up stock for the Manchester and area Empty Bowls events. People may either hand build or wheel throw the bowls. Learn about this grassroots effort to fight hunger at www.EmptyBowls.net. They ask that participants give something to help cover the cost of materials, glaze, and firing, but no one will be turned away for inability to pay (suggested $5-10 based on what you feel your experience was worth and based on how much you made while you were here). No experience is needed. They will teach you all you need to participate! No reservations will be taken. It is drop in only.

2. Touchin’ trucks! Your kids can explore those big vehicles at Touch-A-Truck Nashua on Friday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “TOUCH-A-TRUCK” provides a unique opportunity for children to touch, climb on and ask questions about their favorite trucks in a safe, supervised environment. Accompanying personnel teach children how these machines help in our community. Trucks scheduled to attend the event include a Nashua Police command vehicle, fire trucks from Nashua Fire Rescue, a UPS package car and a trolley provided by Nashua Transit. The event will also feature a variety of service vehicles from the City of Nashua-Division of Public Works. Additional trucks continue to register and will be at the event o n August 3. Touch-A-Truck is presented as an event of the Parks & Recreation Department for the City of Nashua. A suggested donation of $5 per car- or van-load of visitors is requested as admission to the event. Donations are used to support programs offered for children in Nashua.
