5 Things: May Day, Elvis Squared, Rastanana, and More

The weekend is so close I can smell it.

1. Got Sunglasses? You'll be needing them for our unusually sunny outlook. Weather.com is showing mostly sunny skies for the next 8 days. Of course, we all know what they say about the weather in New Hampshire. Still, I'm not complaining.

2. High Fire Hazard: With all that sunshine comes dry conditions, which means our fire hazard outlook is "very high" according to the NH Division of Forest and Lands. So act accordingly - no tossing ciggie butts out the car window, and keep an eye out for brush fires.

3. Dueling Elvises: I haven't been following closely, but I predict an epic movie version of the poison-laced letters featuring two Elvis impersonators who are rivals. I'm casting Nicholas Cage as James Everett Dutschke, the new suspect. Who gets to be the other guy?

4. Got Rastananas? I knew this story was my favorite story of the year so far as soon as I first saw in on WMUR Monday night, so I'm not surprised to see that it's gone national. It's the saga of Henry Gribbohm Jr. of Epsom, who says he was hoodwinked by a carny at Fiesta Shows in Manchester into spending $2,600 playing Tubs of Fun. After complaining, all he got was a $600 refund and a giant Rastafarian banana. Happy to report no such hoodwinking was reported when Fiesta Shows landed in Nashua this time last year.

5. May Day, May Day: Don't panic; it's just the traditional celebration of spring during which children don flowered headdresses and dance around a decorated pole to celebrate life and spring and all that is wonderful about life. Of course, if that doesn't move you, you can dance around because it's International Workers Day, an international nod to the labor movement worldwide. Take your pick, as long as you dance around.
