5 Things: Last Call for One-Way Ticket to Mars

2.  Wine and Dine with Peacock Players: Peacock Players will celebrate the arts at the Annual Dinner & Auction on Friday,October 4th, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza in Nashua. 3. Hurricane Marco Rubio? A group known as 350 Action is petitioning the World Meteorological Association to forget about the common naming ritual of hurricanes, asking them instead to name them after those in denial of Global Warming. Other potential storms, under this system, could include Hurricane John Boehner and Hurricane Michele Bachmann. However, that will only happen if this bandwagon gets rolling - so far, only 221 people have signed the petition, which needs to get 25,000 signatures by November 30.

4. Last Call for One-Way Trip to Mars: More than 165,000 people have applied to join the manned Martian colony effort envisioned by the non-profit Mars One Foundation. But the foundation is only accepting applications until Aug. 31. After that, Mars One officials will begin winnowing down the field of applicants — the only requirement to apply is to be over age 18 — to identify those most likely to thrive on the nine-month journey to the Red Planet, and in the settlement to be established upon arrival.  More here.

5. No One to Watch Over Me? Baby boomers may have no one to care for them in their old age. Shifting demographics mean that aging boomers will have fewer friends and family members to take care of them as they get into their 80s, according to a new study by AARP.
