Adult students can have it ALL

Full-time education for full time workers at NCC.

NASHUA - Life can get in the way of completing a degree, especially for adult students balancing work and family responsibilities. However, the new Accelerated Lifelong Learning, or ALL, program at Nashua Community College has created a tailor-made schedule for 9-5 workers.

“You don’t have to interrupt your career to work toward your degree,” said Samantha Belcourt, CTE and Continuing Education Coordinator.

Belcourt oversees the ALL program at Nashua Community College, “So many working adults either don’t complete their degree, or never had the chance to begin. And once they’re in the workforce, it’s hard to imagine returning to school, especially full-time. This program will show students another way they can have it all.”

Due to launch this fall with the three options below, ALL is designed for adults 25 years or older who want to balance a full-time associate degree or certificate course load with full-time work.

How it works:

Students take two, 8-week courses at a time, including during the summer term, to complete an associate degree in 20 months, or a certificate within 12 months. The ALL program maps out structured course schedules so students can plan ahead and know what to expect for class time and homework.

“ALL will help adult learners who had to put college on hold enroll for the first time, or return to complete a degree,” said Belcourt. Students can also leverage their work experience into earned credits, putting them ahead in the program, she said, “Students may be closer to their goals than they realize.”

Full-time courses for a full-time workers is no easy feat, but by arranging a schedule of online, evening, and weekend classes, ALL provides a framework for students to keep their momentum at work and in school. “In addition to having a mapped out program, students will also have the guidance of student support staff and a team of peers to help them succeed,” said Belcourt.

While ALL will launch with business and psychology concentrations, more degree and certificate pathways will be unveiled as the program continues.
