'Bear'ing Arms at Workplace Leads to Shell Boycott

'No guns, no gas' Facebook page in support of Bear Cothran has been joined by at least two NH Republican State Reps.

A robbery at a Nashua Shell gas station Oct. 14 during which employee Bear Cothran thwarted a robber by showing his concealed handgun, continues to resonate with gun rights advocates, including two New Hampshire Republican State Reps, who are joining a Facebook-driven boycott organized for Nov. 30.

New Hampshire State Reps. John Burt, R-Goffstown, and JR Hoell, R-Dunbarton, support the "No Guns, No Gas" movement, according to this blog post on Miscellany: Blue, which frames it as another example of the "...national split between Tea Party lawmakers and traditional Republican business allies."

The object of the boycott is to not support Shell gas stations owned by Nouria Energy, which owns 26 Shell stations in New Hampshire, according to the post.

Although Cothran was licensed to carry the Ruger handgun, Nouria has a strict "no guns" policy for its employees. Cothran was fired hours after the robbery, which was caught on surveillance tape.

According to the page: "Nouria Energy fired him for violating their no weapons policy. They have the right to set their own employee policies, but we have the right not to support them with our money -- and we intend to exercise that right."

In addition to boycotting the Shell stations, the group is urging others to call Nouria Energy to tell them they won't support companies "that treat heroes like criminals,"
