Truck Heavily Damages Overhead Sign On Everett Turnpike, Closing Road
Update: A compactor truck lost control and hit the support of an overhead sign in Nashua, closing the turnpike for hours.
NASHUA, NH — New Hampshire state police, Nashua Fire Rescue and AMR responded to the F.E. Everett Turnpike Thursday for a truck traveling northbound that lost control and struck a large sign support.
Upon their arrival, they found a commercial truck with a compactor that had slid into the median and caused significant damage to the upright support of an overhead sign over the Southbound side. The driver was treated by AMR medics and transported to St. Joseph Hospital with what state police described as minor injuries.
Due to the structural integrity of the sign, the southbound lanes of the turnpike were shut down at Exit 4, and Nashua Police and state police diverted traffic off the turnpike. Bauchman’s Towing came to the scene with heavy-duty wreckers but could not remove the truck until NH DOT worked to stabilize the sign structure.

The northbound side of the turnpike reopened after emergency crews cleared the scene, but the southbound side remains closed and is expected to remain closed for several hours.
NH DOT, using a contractor, Bauchman tow truck, and DOT equipment, cut the support on the right side and pulled the overhead structure down at about 10:00 a.m. The structure was pushed to the side of the roadway, where it will be removed as weather permits.
