The City of Nashua began installing new electronic pay meters Tuesday, a process which will continue over the next two weeks.
There will be a total of 16 new solar powered pay stations along Main Street, two pay stations in the Elm Street parking garage, and two pay stations in the High Street parking garage. The parking rates and regulations will not change, but users should expect to enjoy a much more convenient and customer-friendly parking experience.
One of the major benefits to converting to the new pay stations from the old mechanical meters is that they accept credit and debit cards, as well as coins. This means that users will no longer have to worry about fumbling for change to park downtown. In addition, the new pay stations will streamline collection activities, exhibit improved reliability over the old meters, and be more efficiently maintained due to electronic maintenance alerts that will be sent to the Transportation Department in real-time.
The new parking pay stations will be live and operational as they are installed throughout the course of the next two weeks. The Main Street pay stations will be "pay-and-display" style, which means users will park their vehicle, insert their payment, and display their printed receipt on the dashboard of their vehicle. The pay stations in the garages will be "pay-by-space" style, which means that users will simply walk to the pay station after they park, enter their space number, insert their payment, and add the time that they would like to stay for. Parking cards will not be accepted by the new pay stations, but can continue to be used on downtown side streets.
