Aldermen to Review Sidewalk Costs Tuesday Night
Week 3 of downtown improvement updates; meeting May 7 to discuss the sidewalk budget.
Progress is important, and if the sounds of jackhammers means anything at all, then last week was full of progress. The following information is from the city's weekly update link with a fast-motion video of my two-minute wait at the traffic light at Main and Franklin Streets, where the signals were offline and three traffic cops were on duty. (If only we could speed up the work in real time!
May 7: Aldermen will review R-12-69, a resolution regarding the breakdown of costs associated with the sidewalk project. You can look at the Costs to Date document issued by the city here.

"Work was completed on the underground conduit including the traffic control conduit. The old pole for the mast arm on the corner of Water and Main was removed and the wiring was connected to the new pole.
We formed and poured both tip downs and a pad on the corner of Water and Main Streets. May 4, two pads were scheduled to be poured near Baby Butsu (not in front of the entrance); we will skip over Espresso Pizza and pour the pad between Espresso Pizza and Boost Mobile.

Week of May 6-10: We expect to finish all concrete work on the west side of Block 2. On Tuesday night, we will pour the pad in front of Espresso Pizza and the last pad in front of the entrance of Baby Butsu. After the concrete is poured, the pads will have tarps over them for seven to 10 days. Pedestrians will be able to walk on the pads during this time and a green carpet will delineate the walkway. All downtown merchants will have access to at least one entrance at all times during business hours.
Once all the concrete is formed, the brick work will begin. It will be necessary for us to close parking spaces and part of a lane on the west side of Block 2 at certain times during construction. We will only close parking or travel lanes when absolutely necessary. Our schedule is tentative and subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
As always, we will continue to do our best to get the work done quickly with as little impact to merchants and customers as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact Roy Sorenson, Superintendent of Streets or Andy Patrician, Operations Manager on site or at 589-3140."
