Fund Set Up for Boy, 2, Left Critically Injured by Assault
Family of Unique Gould, charged with assaulting her son, Devon, is pulling together and focused on saving Devon.
Family members of 21-year-old in connection with critical injuries suffered by her 2-year-old son, Devon, are heartsick.
Gould's uncle, Chris Smart, said the boy remains in critical but stable condition at Mass General Hospital.
"As a family, we're all distraught, confused, upset. We all have so many unanswered questions. Nobody has seen her yet," said Smart. He explained that part of the incarceration process includes initial seclusion for all inmates, who are put on suicide watch.

He was not at liberty to discuss Devon's injuries except to say that they are life altering.
"If he pulls through, he won't have a normal life. We're all praying for a miracle," Smart said.

He said Devon's father as well as both sets of grandparents have been taking turns staying with the boy.
There have been threatening and nasty phone calls and commentary directed at the family, and Unique, via social media and news sites, said Smart.
"It's hard for us – we understand that people get upset, especially when it's a child. It's been a rough week for all of us; it's tragic," Smart said.
He said that the family has set up a fund to help with medical expenses through Citizen's Bank in Milford, which has been verified by Nashua Patch for this story through Milford Branch Manager Trisha Paradise.
Smart didn't know if Devon is insured, but said if he is covered for medical expenses, it's likely through the state.
"Between the ambulance ride to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, the flight to Boston, the week so far in pediatric ICU, and around the clock nursing care, the bills are adding up," Smart said. "We're just trying what we can do as a family to be prepared, no matter what happens to Devon."
Paradise said that when the fund was set up paperwork was included that money would be used toward medical expenses, or in the event the boy does not survive, funeral expenses.
If Smart could talk to his niece, he would ask her what happened.
"I can't picture her doing something like this. I'd ask her what happened, why didn't you reach out to us? I'd ask her if she's covering for someone else – we know it's still an active investigation, and we're just speculating that there could be more to the story. It doesn't make any sense to us," Smart said.
Nashua Police Lt. Francis Sullivan said Friday there was no new information available in the case, which remains active.
Gould is due in court for a probable cause hearing on May 13.
Smart said the family is thankful for the outpouring of support they are receiving during this difficult time from the community, and ask for continued prayer for Devon.
