Have Dinner at Nancy's Diner Wednesday for a Great Cause
A percentage of all dinner tabs will go to help Kathy Thompson of Nashua, who's battling cancer again.
Lenny Abreu is testing out his dinner menu a little earlier than anticipated. Although he will be extending hours at Nancy's Diner, 25 Canal St., to include dinner starting Nov. 1, he's inviting the public to stop by Oct. 22 to try out some of his home-style recipes.
There's a motive to his menu – 10 percent of dinner sales between 4-7 p.m. will go to help one of his regulars, who's battling cancer.
"We heard about Kathy from her daughter, Becky, and we just wanted to help," said Abreu.
Kathy Thompson, a lifelong Nashua resident, has previously beat cancer, said her daughter, Becky Arnold.
"She was five years clean as of January 5. In March, she was clear. In April, they found nodules," said Arnold, who has been selling handmade key chains at local businesses, as well, just to help cover the day-to-day expenses. They will be part of a special raffle during the three-hour fundraising event at Nancy's.
"Every little bit helps," said Abreu, who is hoping for a good turnout for Nancy's Diner's first dinner run, which will include regional favorites including shepherd's pie, meatloaf, pot roast, salmon pie, American chop suey, and anything else on the menu, including blueberry and apple pie.
The diner will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 22, and anyone who mentions the fundraiser will be included in the 10 percent donation, Abreu said.
"Just mention they're here for the fundraiser," Abreu said.
Nancy's Diner dinner menu will officially launch Nov. 1, when the diner will extend its daily hours of operation, 5:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.
