Hudson Man Charged with DWI, Then Assault After Flooding Cell
Nashua Police say the man tried to bite a detention official and a police officer.
A Hudson man arrested on a drunken driving charge was later charged with two counts of assault for allegedly punching and trying to bite a detention official June 3.
Police said Nathaniel Rines, 24, of 9 Newton St., Hudson, was arrested after officers responded to the Racing Mart on Canal Street for a report of an intoxicated person trying to drive.
While awaiting bail Rines tampered with the sprinkler in his cell, causing it to flood, and he then assaulted a civilian detention specialist who attempted to remove him from his cell, according to Nashua Police. Police said he tried to bite the specialist, as well as an officer.
He was also charged with one count of unlawful interference with fire apparatus and criminal mischief.
A Class B Felony is punishable by up to seven years in prison, exclusive of fines. A class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in the county house of correction, exclusive of fines.
Rines was held at the Nashua Police Department pending his arraignment.
