Hundreds Of Accidents Close New Hampshire Roads And Highways
Icy conditions resulted in several multiple vehicle crashes and a mass casualty incident in Nashua. The F.E. Everett Turnpike was shut down.
NASHUA, NH - Nashua Fore Rescue, AMR ambulance, and New Hampshire State Police responded to reports of multiple accidents on the F.E. Everett Turnpike between exit 5 and 6 Saturday.
As responders attempted to reach the scene around 7:45 a.m. the roadway was covered in ice, and multiple vehicles continued to crash into each other. Several vehicles were off the roadway, and multiple vehicles crashed into the guardrails. State Police and Nashua Police shut down the northbound side of the highway at Exit 5 as crews attempted to reach victims in their vehicles.
Nashua Fire requested additional ambulances from surrounding towns, and a mass casualty incident was declared at the two Nashua hospitals.

Nashua Fire Deputy Chief William Atkinson said that the trauma team was activated, and firefighters worked to extricate two people using the jaws of life to free the victims trapped in vehicles.
Initial reports from Deputy Chief Atkinson is that there were more than a dozen cars involved, and at least six people were transported to local hospitals. The medical condition of the victims transported is unknown at the time of publishing.

State Police requested multiple tow trucks to the scene, and as of 9:00 a.m. expected the northbound side of the Everett to remain closed for an additional hour.
Roads and highways across New Hampshire were closed due to icy conditions, and several multiple vehicle accidents across the southern part of the state.
