Litchfield Firefighters Battle House Fire, Woman Perished In The fire

Several fire departments responded to Century Lane for smoke from a single-family house. When they arrived, it was engulfed in fire.

LITCHFIELD, NH - Litchfield Fire and police responded to 7 Century Lane for a report of smoke coming from the building Tuesday morning.

While en route, responders could see heavy black plumes of smoke and called for a second alarm.

Upon arrival, they were notified someone may still be in the single-family residence. Firefighters worked to knock down heavy fire so they could enter the residence.

A woman was found deceased inside the building; Litchfield Fire Chief Nicoll verified the woman appeared to be the only victim.

Several towns and cities responded and worked with Litchfield Fire to extinguish the fire in the 1.5-story single-family home.

The New Hampshire Fire Marshals Office was requested to the scene due to the fatality, and they are handling the investigation.

Initial information is that there are no indications of anything suspicious.

The victim was transported to the NH Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and an autopsy is expected to be done on Wednesday.

At this time, the identity of the victim has not been released.
