Nashua Officer Honored for Saving 25-Year-Old Woman's Life
The woman had stopped breathing before Officer Andrew Karlis stopped to resuscitate her.
A Nashua police officer is being honored for saving the life of a 25-year-old woman who stopped breathing while walking in Nashua last fall.
Officer Andrew Karlis was recently awarded the Nashua Police Department’s Commendation Bar for Life Saving for his actions on Oct. 26, 2013.
On that day, at around 3:30 p.m., Karlis was on routine patrol on Kinsley Street near Ash Street when he observed an adult female walking on the sidewalk. The woman appeared unsteady on her feet and stumbled to the ground. There were no other people around the woman and her medical condition was not known.
Karlis immediately stopped his cruiser and attended to the woman. He observed that the woman was not breathing, had no pulse and was turning blue. He requested an ambulance and began to perform CPR. After a short period of time, the woman resumed breathing on her own.
Medical personnel arrived and took over treatment. The woman was identified as a 25-year-old Nashua resident. She was later transported to the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for treatment.
