Nashua PD Announces Operation Commuter Shield

The initiative, conducted jointly with the state police and county sheriff, is designed to crack down on speeding and aggressive driving.

NASHUA, NH — The Nashua Police Department announced Wednesday that it has partnered with two law enforcement agencies to crack down on vehicles speeding within the city.

Operation Commuter Shield is a joint effort between the NPD, New Hampshire State Police and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department, the NPD announced.

During the month of October, the NPD said the operation will be targeting excessive speeding, aggressive driving and other motor vehicle infractions that are being reported consistently by citizens of Nashua.

The NPD said these complaints have been voiced about infractions at some of the main streets throughout the city, including: Amherst Street, East Hollis Street and West Hollis Street, Main Dunstable Road, Concord Street, Henri A Burque Highway, and F.E. Everett Turnpike.

However, the NPD said the driving infractions have not been limited to these locations.

During Operation Commuter Shield, the NPD said officers will be patrolling the streets at different hours.

"This operation will be conducted during all hours of the day and night and its goal is to shield the commuting traffic that utilizes the roadways within the boundaries of Nashua from unsafe conditions," the NPD said in a statement.

As part of the operation, the NPD said there was a heavy police presence on the F.E. Everett Turnpike on Wednesday morning.

In just five hours, 147 vehicles were stopped, the department said. Over half of the vehicles pulled over had been traveling over 20 mph over the posted speed limit of 55 mph, according to the NPD.

The department said it made three arrests for driving-related offenses.

Anyone with questions about the operation is asked to contact the NPD said 603-594-3500.
